How to Measure for a Costume
What to measure
For a good costume fit, have these ready (in inches, measured over a fitted inner layer):
- Height — top of the head to the floor, barefoot.
- Chest / bust — around the fullest part.
- Waist — around the natural waistline.
- Hip — around the fullest part of the hips.
- Blouse length — shoulder to waist.
- Pant (pyjama) length — waist to ankle.
Tips
- Measure snugly but not tight; the dancer should be able to sit in araimandi comfortably.
- For children, note the age as well — many kids’ costumes are sized by age band.
- If you’re between sizes, tell us in your booking notes and we’ll advise the better option or arrange a custom fitting.
Trial fitting
Whenever possible, do a trial fitting a day or two before the performance. Rental costumes booked early can be adjusted or swapped if the fit isn’t right.
